The Icon of the Baffin Brand. The Baffin Impact is the boot that put Baffin on the map as the elite manufacturer of Extreme Winter Boots. Used by dog sledders at the Iditarod in Alaska, expeditions to the North Pole, Everest expeditions to base camp, and many other weekend warrior expeditions ice fishing in Wisconsin, to snowmobiling in Northern Maine. The Impact is a boot that has been tested in the most extreme elements of winter and continues to be a boot of choice for those not afraid of living life in the colder winter climates.  We advise you select one size larger than your regular shoe size so that you can comfortably fit thick socks with your boots.

“After several years using the Sorel Caribou Wool as my go-to winter boot, I decided to look around for something warmer as I was never completely satisfied with the Sorels as, below -30 degrees, you do start to feel the cold. I ended up buying a pair of Baffin Impacts which has been one of the best decisions I’ve made in regards to expedition clothing. I take a UK size 10 in footwear but was advised to go a size larger…good advice! With the amount of padding the 8 layer inner boot system has, the Impacts come in a little small so you should definitely look at getting a size up from normal. The first thing you notice when you put on the boots is just how comfortable these are. The fit is snug without compressing the foot but still allows you to layer socks if needs be…great if there’s a variation in weather during your trip. Getting the boots on and off is also a breeze; the clips and tightening straps can be used with ease and there are no laces involved. The straps can be tightened with gloves/mitts on which is a great feature when you’re not planning on getting frostbite in your fingers! I used these boots for the first time at the start of this year in Alaska where temperatures dropped way below -40 degrees (sometimes closer to -50) plus windchill but my feet stayed warm and dry the whole time I was there. I spent the majority of my time in Alaska photographing the landscape around the clock so I was outside for up to 18-20 hours a day in some cases but I genuinely had no problems with my feet for the whole duration. Very impressive. I didn’t have to worry about my feet once as they caused me absolutely no problems at all…a big change from the Sorels. I would definitely recommend these boots to anyone looking to spend extended time in extremely cold conditions. They are suitable for walking, husky sledding, snowmobiling, light trekking, winter camping etc.”

I’ve worn hiking and walking boots before, but these felt a little strange at first. The layered insulation took me a little while to adjust to. But they’re warm with a good tread, nicely padded and not too heavy and bulky. I’m glad I spoke to John before placing my order, as getting one size bigger than you’d normally wear is a must.
